Many people build their email sign-up forms assuming a pop-up is the only option. Don't get us wrong, these are still the most common way to generate interest. But customers are getting shop-savvy as more and more brands use them, and some of your best potential subscribers now close the pop-up before it has even loaded, simply because they know the drill.
That doesn't have to mean losing sign-ups. It just means being equally savvy. One of our favourite ways to do that is a quiz that excites customers with a little personalised shopping support. Not sure how they work? We've explained it all below.
01 — The IdeaWhy quizzes make a great sign-up tool
There are many quizzes you could put on your site, but we recommend one that helps customers along their shopping journey. If you have a large range, a quiz can help someone choose which product to try first. If your range is narrow but comes in many flavours or variants, it can point them to the right starting place.
Quizzes are quick to set up, collect useful customer data, and make opting in feel far less transactional. Customers hand over their email for genuinely helpful shopping guidance rather than a discount they might never use. You learn more about them (great research for future products), and you deliver a little customer service before they've even bought, which helps them feel more connected and loyal.
Customers give you their email for helpful guidance, not a discount they may never use.
02 — The Follow-UpWhat happens after the quiz?
Everyone who submits answers enters a modified welcome series, where each answer shapes the products recommended to them. You can still include an offer, but these emails should feel less sales-driven and more focused on educating.
Take the time to explain why you chose each product for them, what it does, and how it adds value to their day. This matters, because some people will be recommended things they wouldn't have picked themselves. A few will trust your suggestion straight away; others need convincing when the answer feels a little left of field. The right education turns that curiosity into a repeat customer.
03 — The TechDo these quizzes link to Klaviyo?
There are several quiz tools out there. Not all connect to Klaviyo, but some, like Revenue Hunt, have a native integration, so results feed straight into your Klaviyo account and make triaging your emails much easier.
Because the answers live in Klaviyo, you can use them in future marketing, showing or hiding blocks so emails always lean toward what each person is likely to buy, and even building segments that skip products they're unlikely to want. That keeps your audience engaged and your deliverability healthy.
04 — The OptionsSome quiz ideas to try
A product-recommendation quiz is the most popular, because it leads naturally into suggestions without forcing a sale. A few other options that lift sign-ups:
Gift Finder
For shoppers buying for someone special and unsure where to start.
Style Quiz
Learns a customer's preferences quickly and points them the right way.
Knowledge Quiz
Assigns a discount based on how many questions they get right.
Like everything in email marketing, the quiz you build is only limited by your imagination.
Let's build a post-quiz flow that turns answers into sales.
